Welcome to Currently Speaking: A newsletter about energy, power and politics.
You’re almost definitely asking another Substack on energy? Yes, there are a tonne of existing newsletters around climate change, the energy transition and sustainability. There’s also a seething mass of newsletters glorifying fossil fuel consumption and pushing back against climate change action and the “woke mainstream media” 1
So, why sign up? Despite the sea of energy substacks, we could not find one with an Australian focus. We think there’s plenty of people out there who want to understand the level of detail underneath the 30 second snippets provided by the news. Better yet, an informative newsletter crossed with a juicy gossip rag — all focussed on Australian energy and politics.2
Each week we’ll dive into trending stories in the energy sector, examining the politics at play behind these stories and trying to decipher what actually matters. While we’ll be covering climate change and the energy transition, we wanted to write a newsletter about energy for the sake of energy.
Besides being the unofficial gossip rag of the NEM3, we’d like to open up the understanding of energy beyond the jargon and high garden walls of the sector.
Lastly, we will do our best to share what we learn and provide our insights, but we’re also undoubtedly going to say things that you disagree with or that are downright wrong.4 We apologise in advance!
So, if you have signed up to Currently Speaking, thank you! We look forward to pinging your inbox soon.

The archetypal Substack author is this dipshit, who not only looks like the villain from a Nickelodeon movie, but possesses the unsophisticated libertarian thought processes of a 13 year old private school boy who just read Atlas Shrugged.
We’re kidding. We can’t promise you juice.
Like, are we kidding at this point?
Or painfully unfunny
