A friend
Greg Williams, a good friend of mine and many, suffered a heart attack on 26 June 2026. After battling for a few weeks, he has now been transferred to palliative care.

Greg was one of my first professional mentors. We shared a pod together at the Australian Energy Market Commission. Greg was a passionate advocate for energy economics, a deep thinker1 and an incredibly kind and joyous person. I am extremely lucky to have had the time to know and learn from him. I know I share this feeling with many.
Greg is inseparable from his love of music, a passionate football fan and could easily be persuaded meet you at a brewery. He is a mate, a husband, a father and much more.
What happened to Greg is tragic and unexpected. The electricity community is small. Many of you reading this will know Greg, and know how much smaller that community will feel for his absence.
This is tragic - I had no idea, so thank you for sharing this more widely.
I never met Greg, but over on LinkedIn he was one of a few people willing and able to consistently offer real insights and open-minded, creative thinking on the challenges of energy economics. I was very appreciative of Greg's views in our occasional back and forths, and I guess I assumed we'd meet up in person one day (no real urgency). I'm sure we'd have had lots to talk about in music and brewing if the energy thoughts ever started to slow down.
This reminds me of Ariel Liebman: another sharp Australian energy thinker taken from us far too soon and against all expectations.
My thoughts are with Greg's family and friends through what must be a shocking time.
